Who are the British people? Are we a "nation of Immigrants", a mongrel mass, or are we based on an original population going back to prehistoric times, with later arrivals - all until recently as ethnically European as we are - merely adding relatively minor layers on top of that ancient substratum.

This book, written by Steve Brady and published in 1990, sought to answer that question, on the basis of the state of knowledge at that time. Subsequent findings in archaeology and genetics have modified the details of the story since, but the basic truth that these islands are ours and have been for a very long time - until now at least! - remains firmly grounded in the facts.
